TF2 Performance All-Weather Lubricant with Teflon® (100ml)

by Grant Hill

This lube is the latest addition to the TF2 range and falls into the all-weather category of bike lubes. Unscrewing the cap for the first time I was a little dubious as there's quite a large hole at the end of the dropper; I was thinking that it would go everywhere. To my surprise I found that the lube is actually thick enough that this isn't a problem at all. In fact, the thickness combined with the green colour made the lube very easy to control and see where you've put it - top marks on that front. After adding a drop to each chain roller and wiping off the excess it was ready to go.

Overall, I find TF2 oil to be reasonably good, especially for the road bike. After a long ride, the chain isn't dry and also it hasn't picked up a lot of road grime which is a plus, and it is definitely easier to keep the chain clean. For the xc and downhill bikes, I found that after a day’s riding, the chain would be clean (along with the cassette).

I’ve learnt the hard way over the years that not all bike lubes are equal. My most recent failure was thinking that because it hadn’t rained for a few weeks I should try some dry lube that promised “mess free all weather shifting”. Well two hours in my bike sounded like a rusty shopping bike and then the (new-ish) chain snapped and fell off. So I went back to the tried and tested heavy wet lube that works. The downside is that it gums the drivechain up so regulalar cleaning is needed to keep it smooth and clean. So I was more than happy to try the TF2 performance lube and see if it could offer the long lasting lubrication without the gunking up.

When testing the TF2 lubricant, I started by degreasing and cleaning my chain and cassette to remove any other lube that might have been left on. I then applied the TF2 along the chain as I was turning and changing gear as I think this is the best way to make sure you get an even covering. I tested the lube round Gisburn Forest in Lancashire - my local ride.
